About The Last British President

The idea for the book first came to me in 2013, during Cristina Fernández de Kirchner’s second term as president of Argentina, when I began to speculate on whether I could do a better job as president.
Her populist policies didn’t sit well with the middle classes, not to mention the protectionism which practically isolated Argentina from the rest of the world.
I had heard the refrain “If only the British had won in 1806…” many times and when I looked into the British River Plate invasions of 1806 and 1807, it became clear that Britain came within a whisker of taking Buenos Aires and the future of Argentina could have veered off in a completely different direction. Perhaps it may even have become a British colony, with the population now speaking English as their native tongue?
