At the beginning of the year I published a series of articles at Dave’s Computer Tips (DCT) on self-publishing, based on my early experiences of seeking a literary agent and later deciding to take the self-publishing route.
One can never know everything about the publishing business, especially as a début author.However, the industry has changed dramatically in the last ten years or so and traditional publishing is no longer the first choice for aspiring authors – as I have learned to my benefit.
Clearly the major benefits of acquiring a publishing deal with a traditional publisher are professional editing, layout, cover design and last but not least, book promotion.
But those aspects are not that difficult to achieve in self-publishing, particularly with Kindle Direct Publishing (Amazon/KDP), since the entire process is significantly easier to follow that I could possibly have imagined.In these articles I describe finishing The Last British President, seeking an agent to represent me, discovering KDP and the numerous steps involved in finally publishing the book.
